Actually a multi-year collaboration from MamaCITA members Brenda Howell, Janice Hayes-Cha, Karen Hunter-McLaughlin, Kimberly Mehler and Julie Mann, One Year was an exploration of the public apathy towards rising urban violence. Through the creation of hundreds of sculptural wire vessels– one for each murder in Philadelphia in 2012– One Year examined the numbing of society towards this epidemic. This successful collaborative installation was shown in several highly acclaimed exhibitions throughout Philadelphia in late 2012 and early 2013.
